Mooney viscosity and Mooney viscosity method of silicone rubber

Hits: 837 img

Mooney viscosity can basically reflect the polymerization degree and molecular weight of synthetic rubber. Mooney viscosity reflects the processing performance and molecular weight of rubber and its distribution range.

Mooney viscosity value is closely related to plasticity, high viscosity value, Mooney viscosity mainly affects the processing properties of raw rubber and synthetic rubber, indicating that rubber has high molecular weight and poor plasticity, conversely, rubber has low molecular weight and good plasticity.

Mooney viscosity too high is not easy to process; If Mooney viscosity is too low, the tensile strength of vulcanized products is low, and the performance may not meet the requirements.

Reasonable control of Mooney viscosity of rubber is beneficial to mixing, calendering, extrusion, injection and molding vulcanization of rubber, so that vulcanized rubber can obtain good physical and mechanical properties.

What is Mooney viscometer?

Mooney viscometer is used to measure the plasticity of rubber rubber material. Its testing principle is to measure the shear resistance of the sample to the rotor rotation under a certain temperature, time and pressure, and to indicate the size of plastic rubber material with different torque. The structure of Mooney viscometer is shown below.

The testing process is that the mold cavity is heated to (100±1) ℃, and then the sample is put into the mold cavity and preheated for a certain time, and the viscometer starts to work. When the rotor rotates, the scale value of the meter is observed, and the displayed value is the Mooney viscosity value of the adhesive material, referred to as Mooney viscosity. The greater the Mooney viscosity, the higher the viscosity of the rubber (that is, the lower the plasticity of the rubber >. Mooney viscosity values vary according to the test conditions, so the test recording method should indicate the test conditions. Generally, Mooney viscosity is expressed as ML1+4 at 100℃. Among them, M memeni, L1+ 4,100 ℃ represents the use of great rotor (diameter 38. 1mm) torsion value measured when preheating for 1min and rotating for 4min < its value is indicated by dial indicator >. Mooney viscosity is measured from 0 to 200.

Mooney viscosity reflects the viscosity of adhesive under specific conditions and can be directly used as an index to measure the rheological properties of adhesive. However, due to the slow speed and small shear rate, this method can only reflect the rheological properties of rubber at low shear rate. If the test speed is increased, the results are closer to the rheological properties in actual machining.

Mooney viscosimetry is a quick and easy way to test the plasticity of the adhesive without the need to make standard shape samples. In addition, the method can easily measure the burning time of the glue (i.e., the diameter is 30. With a 5mm rotor, the rubber material is preheated at 120℃ for 1min, and the measured time required when the Mooney viscosity value drops to the minimum value and then turns to the time required when the Mooney value rises by 5, which is called burning), so as to timely understand the processing safety of the rubber material. Therefore, Mooney viscosity is widely used in scientific research and production.
