Silicone, also known as silicone or siloxane, is a siloxane polymer formed by alternating main chain siloxane.

Because its structure contains both "organic group" and "inorganic structure", it has both organic and inorganic chemical properties.

As one of the application forms of silicone rubber product materials, foamed silicone rubber is a soft and ductile elastomer compound, which can be divided into closed cell type, open cell type and mixed type.

It not only has high and low temperature resistance, heat resistance, UV resistance, high flame retardancy, but also has the properties of sound absorption, shock absorption, sealing and high resilience. The specific properties are as follows:

1： High and low temperature resistance

Foamed silicone rubber has excellent mechanical properties at high temperature (above 200 ℃), and still has certain toughness and elasticity, while the glass transition temperature (TG) can be as low as - 70 ℃.

Generally, the working temperature of foamed silicone rubber is - 100 ℃ to 350 ℃. It can withstand thousands of degrees of instantaneous high temperature, so it is often used to make high-temperature and heat-resistant coatings, such as aviation.

2： High flame retardancy

Compared with polyurethane foam, foaming silicone rubber can meet the requirements of EN45545-2 in flame retardancy. Its foam density is 0.08~0.15g/cm3, and its service life is up to 2~4 times of polyurethane foam.

In addition, it is also superior to polyurethane foam in terms of comfort, foam density and environmental protection. Therefore, it is expected to replace traditional polyurethane foam in aerospace, rail transit and high-end automotive industry.

3： Electrical insulation

Foamed silicone rubber has good insulation. After combustion, the generated silica is still an insulating material.

In addition, foamed silicone rubber is not easy to scorch during arc discharge, because it has less carbon atoms in its structure and its reinforcing filler white carbon black, which is suitable for high-voltage occasions.

4： Physiological inertia

The surface of foamed silicone rubber is hydrophobic. Therefore, it has small reduction in physical properties and poor adhesion in humid environment, which can play a role in isolation. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and tasteless, and does no harm to human health, which creates its excellent physiological inertia. At the same time, it is also very superior in aging resistance.
