What is methylsilicone oil: Methylsilicone oil is generally a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and non volatile liquid. It is insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol, and can be miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, carbon tetrachloride, or kerosene. It is slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol, and butanol. Methyl silicone oil is a linear polyorganosiloxane with Si-O-Si as the main chain and two methyl and trimethyl siloxane groups terminated on Si. It is liquid at room temperature,
Product features
1. Good heat resistance
Due to the main chain being composed of - Si-O-Si - bonds, silicone oil molecules have a structure similar to inorganic polymers with high bond energy, resulting in excellent heat resistance.
2. Good oxidation stability and weather resistance
3. Good electrical insulation
Silicone oil has good dielectric properties, and its electrical characteristics change very little with temperature and frequency. The dielectric constant decreases with increasing temperature, but the change is minimal. The power factor of silicone oil is low and increases with temperature, but it varies irregularly with frequency. The volume resistivity decreases with increasing temperature.
4. Good hydrophobicity
Although the main chain of silicone oil is composed of polar Si-O bonds, the non-polar alkyl groups on the side chains are oriented outward, preventing water molecules from entering the interior and playing a hydrophobic role. The interfacial tension between silicone oil and water is about 42 dynes/centimeter. When diffused on glass, due to the water repellency of silicone oil, a contact angle of about 103 ° is formed, which is comparable to paraffin.
5. Low viscosity temperature coefficient
The viscosity of silicone oil is low and changes little with temperature, which is related to the helical structure of silicone oil molecules. Silicone oil is a type of oil with the best viscosity temperature characteristics among various liquid lubricants, and this characteristic of silicone oil is very meaningful for damping equipment.
6. High compressive resistance
Due to the helical structure and large intermolecular distance of silicone oil molecules, they have high compressive resistance. By utilizing the characteristic of silicone oil, it can be used as a liquid spring, and compared with mechanical springs, its volume can be greatly reduced.
7 Low surface tension
Low surface tension is a characteristic of silicone oil. Low surface tension indicates high surface activity, therefore, silicone oil has excellent defoaming and anti foaming properties, isolation performance from other substances, and lubrication performance.
8. Non toxic, odorless, and physiologically inert
From a physiological perspective, siloxane polymers are one of the least active compounds known. Dimethylsilicone oil is inert to organisms and has no rejection reaction with animal bodies. Therefore, they have been widely used in departments such as surgery and internal medicine, medicine, food, and cosmetics.
9. Good lubrication
Silicone oil has many excellent properties as a lubricant, such as high flash point, low solidification point, thermal stability, small viscosity variation with temperature, non corrosion of metals, no adverse effects on rubber, plastics, coatings, and organic paint films, low surface tension, and easy spreading on metal surfaces. In order to improve the lubricity of steel with silicone oil, lubricating additives that are miscible with silicone oil can be added. Introducing chlorophenyl on the siloxane chain or replacing dimethyl with trifluoromethyl can greatly improve the lubrication performance of silicone oil.
