Experience sharing of silicone mold flipping
Those who flip molds know that flipping molds may seem simple, but there are many details and practical skills that need to be paid attention to in actual operation. Novices often waste a lot of materials to make a decent work. Below are ten experiences shared by a mold flipping master on flipping molds with liquid silicone and resin AB water.
Liquid silicone and resin AB water
Experience 1: The ratio of silicone to curing agent is a weight ratio rather than a volume ratio. Many people who are using liquid silicone for the first time will make this mistake, so it is also recommended that beginners try a small amount before use to avoid waste.
Experience 2: It is difficult to operate when mixing liquid silicone with gloves, and it is difficult to clean hands without gloves. If you need to wear gloves, wear the tight fitting sleeve used for surgery. If you don't wear them, use Vaseline to rub your hands and at least wash them better in the future.
Experience 3: The mold frame and plasticine should be treated seamlessly, otherwise the liquid silica gel will flow out from the gap. When making a mold frame, it is generally necessary to choose smooth materials such as acrylic sheets, glass, etc., which can facilitate the demolding of silicone molds.
Experience 4: The proportion of curing agent should be operated according to the correct proportion provided by the manufacturer. Adding too little often leads to not curing for a day.
Experience 5: Take an equal amount of resin AB water and put it in the same container. Do not mix it, just shake it in your hand. If too many bubbles are generated during mixing and solidification, it will result in almost waste. Additionally, if the object being flipped is small, an approximate volume can be estimated and an equal amount of AB water can be extracted using a large syringe. Otherwise, the error in pouring it out based on intuition can be quite significant.
Experience 6: If you find the iron box containing AB water very inconvenient to operate, it is recommended to buy glass sealed cans or other substitutes from the supermarket. They should be able to seal as long as they can. This thing is very afraid of water and moisture, so it should be quickly sealed after taking the medicine.
Experience 7: Silicone molds are prone to wear and tear, and the more they are flipped over, the more severe the loss of details becomes. Therefore, be careful when removing resin parts. The thickness and even clamping of the silicone mold can prevent deformation of the finished product caused by internal space compression.
Experience 8: Regarding the most headache inducing bubble problem, in industry, vacuum pumping is used to remove bubbles. However, not everyone is willing to spend thousands of yuan on something, so we can use the brush mold method. For details, please see: How to reduce bubbles without a vacuum machine for silicone flipping molds.
Experience 9: Common release agents in the market include Vaseline release agent, neutral release agent, and water-based release agent. For those with low requirements, soap water and detergent can also be used as substitutes, but oil cannot be used as a substitute, otherwise it will stick to the surface after curing.
Experience 10: Although silicone oil can be used to reduce the viscosity and hardness of mold liquid silicone, it also reduces the performance of silicone and is generally not recommended for use.
