Solution to excessive shrinkage of silicone molds
The problem of high shrinkage rate of silicone gel is troubling many people. Many people are struggling to find solutions but have no effect. The cause of this result is the lack of specific analysis of the problem. Only by finding the right cause can we prescribe the right medicine and better solve the problem of shrinkage rate.
Analysis of the reasons for the high shrinkage rate of silicone gel:
1. Any material has a certain degree of shrinkage, and silicone rubber has a relatively small shrinkage rate compared to many materials. A shrinkage rate of 0.5-1% is normal for condensation type mold silicone, and around 0.2% for addition type mold silicone.
2. The mold storage method is incorrect.
3. The larger the product size, the more obvious the shrinkage.
4. We didn't add fiberglass cloth when making large products.
5. The proportion of curing agent added is too high.
6. The mold is not fully cured, and the hardness of the silicone is not stable. Rushing to demold or produce in advance can cause deformation and shrinkage of the silicone mold.
Solution for high shrinkage rate of silicone gel:
1. The original mold needs to be enlarged proportionally.
2. When the mold is not in use, fill it with gypsum water for storage, and then remove the gypsum product when it is ready for production, so that the reproduced product will not shrink.
3. Reduce the proportion of curing agent added, for example: originally added 5%, now reduced to 3%.
4. When making molds for large products, fiberglass cloth should be added to prevent deformation or enlargement of the mold.
5. The mold must be demolded within the specified time of at least 6-8 hours and can only be used for production after 24 hours.
