List of materials for silicone mold flipping tools

Many people like to use silicone to flip some models, such as DIY handmade soap, cartoon character models, etc. So what tools and materials are needed in the flipping process

1、 Liquid silicone gel
Liquid silicone, also known as silicone or silicon gel, is the main consumable used in the production of silicone molds during the flipping process. There are two types: semi transparent and white. It is recommended to use white, which has better fluidity and flipping times compared to semi transparent.

2、 Curing agent
Curing agent is used to solidify liquid silicone gel, add silicone gel according to the manufacturer's required ratio, stir thoroughly, and cover the mold seed.If too much curing agent is added, the silicone will quickly harden and may be scrapped before the operation is completed.
Adding too little, the curing time is long, and it is also possible that it will not cure at all.

3、 Polyurethane resin
Polyurethane resin, commonly known as AB water, is a very convenient material to use. The AB components are mixed in a 1:1 ratio, thoroughly stirred, and cured in about 3-5 minutes. After complete curing, it can be demolded after waiting for 1 hour.
 The flipping details are very good, the shrinkage rate is small, and the finished product has a good hand feel.

4、 Release agent
Release agents can be sprayed or replaced with medical Vaseline or oily substances such as eye ointment to separate the silicone mold.

5、 Industrial rubber putty
Industrial rubber putty, as the main material for making reflective molds before pouring silicone, is relatively soft and can be replaced by oil putty, putty, etc. It can be reused repeatedly and is commonly used when flipping molds in large quantities.

6、 Building blocks
Flip molding blocks are not essential and can be built with ABS board or cardboard. Pay attention to the sealing, and if it is a cardboard surface, it should be smooth.
