In the process of using liquid silicone to make silicone molds, it is inevitable to encounter the problem of sticking to the mold to some extent, which will seriously affect the aesthetic quality of the silicone mold produced
Tip 1: Material selection: Try to choose smooth materials for the mother mold and mold frame. The mold frame can be made of plastic building blocks or acrylic sheets.
Tip 2, Spray Release Agent: Spray release agent on the master mold. Common release agents include water-based, dry, and oil-based. Generally, water-based release agents are used for making molds such as cultural stones and concrete, dry (also known as neutral) release agents are used for resin molds, and oil-based release agents are used for polyurethane molds.
If there is a small amount of mold flipping, it can also be replaced with dishwashing detergent or soapy water.
Tip 3: Mold opening after complete curing: As the curing process of liquid silicone gel is from initial curing to complete curing, many mold opening beginners immediately open the mold after initial curing. At this time, the silicone gel is not completely cured, and only the surface is cured, while the inner layer is not cured. Forcing mold opening at this time can also cause the problem of sticking to the partially cured part of the mold. Therefore, it is generally recommended to open the mold after 12-24 hours to avoid the trouble of silicone mold deformation or increased shrinkage rate.
Tip 4: Choose the appropriate silicone: When using liquid silicone for mold flipping and transparent epoxy resin crafts, it is necessary to choose the right silicone. If the adhesive problem occurs when using condensed liquid mold silicone, the silicone mold can be placed in an oven (80 ℃ -90 ℃) for two hours, depending on the size of the silicone mold. After the silicone mold cools down, the adhesive problem can be solved by adding epoxy resin.
If the adhesive problem occurs when using additive liquid mold silicone, it is either due to insufficient cleanliness of the silicone mold or mother mold prototype, or due to quality issues with the silicone or resin.
Finally, it should be emphasized that as long as the material of the master mold is clean and smooth, and a release agent is sprayed during mold flipping, it can be easily removed from the silicone mold after complete curing.
