With the unique surface properties of dimethyl silicone oil, adding a very small amount to coatings and inks can prevent uneven coloring, improve extensibility, make the coating film surface uniform, increase its vividness and make it smooth. High-viscosity methyl silicone oil can also be used as a defoamer for coatings. However, if the usage method and dosage are improper, it will have the opposite effect. Coatings with added silicone oil have poor compatibility with other coatings and are not suitable for being mixed with each other. Generally, the addition amount of silicone oil is controlled between 0.01% and 0.5%.
When methyl silicone oil is incorporated into thermoplastic resins, it can endow plastics with new properties. It can improve the demolding property (internal release agent) of plastics and the dispersibility of inorganic fillers in resins, and enhance the fluidity of resins as well as the surface lubricity and wear resistance of products. Resins such as POM, PA, HIPS, and ABS with added methyl silicone oil are commonly used to make wear-resistant and lubricated plastic parts, such as gears in OA equipment.
Dimethyl silicone oil can also be used as an additive for many other materials. For example, it can be used as a brightening agent for paints. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to paints can prevent floating and wrinkling and improve the brightness of the paint film. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to inks can improve the printing quality. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to polishing oils (such as car polish) can increase the brightness, protect the paint film, and have an excellent waterproof effect.
