Is food grade silicone cheap?
Food grade silicone is a type of additive liquid silicone, belonging to platinum sulfide silicone, consisting of AB two components in a 1:1 ratio. Additive food grade silicone is composed of main raw materials such as hydrogenated silicone oil, vinyl silicone oil, 107 based adhesive, platinum catalyst, etc. Therefore, the quality of these basic raw materials directly affects the cost of food grade silicone.
Silicone oil is a type of material with varying quality on the market, including imported Dow Corning silicone oil, Xinyue silicone oil, and Wacker silicone oil; Domestic silicone oil also includes Spark silicone oil, Xin'an silicone oil, and some small factories extract their own silicone oil.
So is food grade silicone cheap?
Each manufacturer produces different quality products, uses different materials, and has different prices. Generally, food grade silicone made from pyrolysis materials has low material prices and costs, but the quality of the produced silicone is poor. After the silicone is cured, it is prone to problems such as sticking and oil leakage. What is more serious is that the silicone oil extracted from waste rubber has a slight pungent taste, which cannot meet the standards of food grade certification. Therefore, it cannot be used to produce food grade silicone molds.
When using brand new and good materials to make food grade silicone, when the silicone is completely cured, its tear resistance and surface effect will perform very well. Therefore, the price of condensed industrial grade liquid silicone is cheaper than that of food grade silicone. The reason why the price of additive silicone is higher than that of condensed silicone is due to the high cost of platinum catalysts. Under the same hardness and performance conditions, the unit price of added liquid silicone is 20 to 30 yuan/KG higher than that of condensed liquid silicone. So only customers with environmental requirements will use added silicone as a mold.
