Two kilograms of used catalyst can make a platinum ring for your wife

Why is there so much platinum in the used catalyst? Because in order to ensure the activity, selectivity, toxicity resistance, certain strength and shelf life index performance of the catalyst, in its preparation process, we often add some platinum and other precious metals as active ingredients.

Although the morphology, structure and quantity of some components of the catalyst will change during the use process, there is still a considerable amount of precious metals in the used catalyst. These precious metals are expensive because they are difficult to produce and are not produced in high quantities, so they must be recycled at all costs.

Different used catalysts have different methods and technologies for extracting precious metals from them. The main methods for recycling waste catalysts containing silver, platinum and rhodium are as follows:

High temperature volatilization method:

The material is heated in the presence of some gases to volatilize the precious metals in the form of chloride, and the precious metals are extracted after absorption.

Carrier dissolution method:

The carrier is dissolved by acid or base and the metal is left in the slag, and the precious metal is extracted from the slag.

Selective dissolution method:

That is, the carrier is insoluble, select special solvent to dissolve platinum and other precious metals, and extract metal components from the solution.

Soluble method:

The carrier and precious metals are dissolved into the solution at one time, and then the precious metals in the solution are recovered by ion exchange or extraction.

Fire smelting:

The precious metal is separated from the carrier at high temperature.

Burning method:

For the catalyst with the carrier of carbon, the precious metals are extracted after the carrier is burned out.

Making a ring is really not an easy thing, in addition to using the above method to separate the metal and non-metal, but also to carry out the metal purification.

Purification, usually with two methods, one is electrolysis, the other is ion exchange.

Electrolysis method is the use of different potential, the precious metal in the solution of the cathode precipitation. Ion exchange occurs in hydrochloric acid solution with pH<3, in which PGMs exist in the form of chloride and anions. A strong acidic hydrogen type cation exchange resin was used to conduct ion exchange with ammonium chloroplatinate in hot water to achieve the purpose of purifying precious metals.
