Reasons and Solution Techniques for Edge Explosion in Silicone Product Forming

In the production of silicone products, low hardness silicone products may experience cracks at the edges due to poor control during molding, which is commonly known as silicone product edge burst. Why do low hardness silicone products have edge bursts? What is the solution to the molding edge explosion of low hardness silicone products?

1、 Low hardness (around 30 degrees) rubber materials are prone to defects such as air bubbles during molding. If it is the color of the silicone body or translucent color, it is easy to see many small white spots inside the silicone product,

Solution: To increase the mold temperature, increase the mold temperature appropriately.

2、 After the mold temperature increased, the air bubbles and white spots were resolved, but the edges of the silicone product began to crack, which means there were explosive edges. This forms a dead cycle, where increasing the mold temperature leads to edge explosion, while decreasing the mold temperature leads to air bubbles and white spots.

Solution:

1. Reduce the mold temperature for molding, and if there are air pockets (bubbles) and poor white spots, extend the curing time. The temperature of the molding must be sharply reduced until the silicone product does not burst. Do not assume that a temperature drop of four or five degrees can solve the problem.

2. The exhaust stroke and frequency must be well controlled, and the exhaust frequency should be minimized. If possible, the exhaust stroke should also be shortened as much as possible.

3. The amount of vulcanizing agent added can be appropriately reduced.

3、 The self dismantling blade of the silicone product molding mold is too sharp or has burrs.

Summary:

Silicone products are prone to edge bursts when the hardness is around 30 degrees, which is generally rare when the hardness is above 50 degrees, such as silicone buttons. Therefore, after we understand the edge bursts of low hardness silicone products, we should prevent and repair this situation to ensure the orderly development of silicone product factories
