Silicon rubber and metal bonding process flow

With the continuous innovation and progress of technology in the silicone industry, the application of silicone rubber in daily life is also becoming more and more widespread. However, sometimes there are some problems in application, such as how to bond silicone rubber products with metal

1、 To achieve adhesion in metal surface treatment, the first step is to treat the metal surface. The commonly used methods are: chemical, mechanical, and solvent. Generally, silicone product factories choose methods based on actual conditions. Mechanical treatment often uses methods such as sandblasting, sanding with cloth or grinding wheel, especially sandblasting, which is low-cost, fast, and effective, and has been widely used. Chemical methods are also commonly used, especially for anodizing of aluminum and its alloys, and for copper plating of steel, chemical methods are required. The treated metal surface should be coated with adhesive, silicone rubber, or immersed in an inert solvent in a timely manner.

2、 The design of metal joints (recommended product: fluororubber joints) requires the adhesion of silicone rubber to metal. Secondly, it is necessary to start with the bonded joint, as it is a part of the overall product design. Below, we will first understand the design principle of the joint:

Fluorine rubber joint

1) Maximize the bonding area and improve the bearing capacity of the bonding joint;

2) The stress mode of the adhesive joint should be shear force or tensile force to prevent peeling force;

3) The bonding length in the direction of force should not be too long, and the bonding width should be increased as much as possible;

4) The force direction of laminated bonding should avoid interlayer separation;

5) Oblique angle bonding is better than right angle bonding;

6) The joints subjected to lateral forces should be bonded with a mold surface. Based on the above principles and the characteristics of rubber products, methods such as drilling holes in metal parts and threading grooves are generally used to improve the bonding strength of joints.
