How is dimethyl silicone oil synthesized?
Dimethylsilicone oil is a hydrophobic organic silicon material. It has applications in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, daily chemical products, food, and construction. The method for synthesizing dimethyl silicone oil is to use octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and hexamethyldisiloxane as raw materials and acid as catalyst. During the synthesis process, there are two reactions simultaneously: polymerization and equilibration.
The reaction process is as follows: add octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, hexamethyldisiloxane and self-made solid super acid into a three necked flask, adjust the temperature and stirring speed, and start the reaction. Stop the reaction after a certain period of time. Filter out the solid catalyst and perform vacuum distillation on the filtrate to obtain the product. The price of hexamethyldisiloxane in the synthetic raw materials is much higher than that of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. From an economic perspective, the goal of optimizing the process conditions is to generate dimethyl silicone oil with the highest viscosity by consuming as little hexamethyldisiloxane as possible.
Alternatively, equilibrium reactions can be carried out between the hydrolysate of dimethyldichlorosilane and hexamethyldisiloxane, as well as condensation reactions between low moles of polydimethylsiloxane diol and trimethylsilanol or low moles of MDnM.
