Methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber is a product obtained by introducing methyl phenyl siloxane or diphenyl siloxane units into the molecular chain of methyl vinyl silicone rubber.
Introducing phenyl groups on the side groups of polydimethylsiloxane greatly reduces the crystallization temperature of the polymer and expands the low-temperature application range of the polymer material due to the disruption of the regularity of the dimethylsiloxane structure. Therefore, in addition to having all the compression permanent deformation, wide temperature range, oxidation resistance, weather resistance, shock resistance, moisture resistance, and good electrical insulation properties of methyl vinyl silicone rubber, methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber also has excellent properties such as low temperature resistance, burn resistance, and radiation resistance. These properties vary with the different phenyl content in the molecular chain. Generally speaking, low phenyl silicone rubber is called when the phenyl content (the ratio of phenyl to silicon atoms) is between 5-10%. It has unique cold resistance and can maintain the elasticity of rubber at -70 to -100 ℃. It is the best rubber in low-temperature performance among all rubbers. In addition, it has the advantages of methyl vinyl silicone rubber and is not expensive, so it has a tendency to replace methyl vinyl silicone rubber. When the phenyl content is 20-40%, it is called medium phenyl silicone rubber, which has the advantages of methyl vinyl silicone rubber and is not expensive, so there is a tendency to replace methyl vinyl silicone rubber. When the phenyl content is 20-40%, it is called medium phenyl silicone rubber, which has excellent flame resistance and can self extinguish once ignited. When the phenyl content is between 40-50%, it is called high phenyl silicone rubber, which has excellent radiation resistance and a resistance to gamma rays of 1xI08 Roentgen. Generally speaking, with the increase of phenyl content, the rigidity of silicone rubber molecular chains gradually increases, and the low-temperature resistance of silicone rubber gradually decreases. However, with the increase of phenyl content, the flame resistance and radiation resistance of vulcanized rubber are improved.
Methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber is one of the important materials in the aerospace industry, cutting-edge technology, and other sectors of the national economy. It can be used to make various molded and extruded products for use as cold resistant rubber in the aviation industry, as well as sealing rings, gaskets, pipes, and rods for parts that are resistant to erosion, heat aging, or radiation.
