Dimethylsilicone oil has many outstanding characteristics, so it is widely used in various sectors of industrial and agricultural production, national defense industry, scientific research, and medical and health sectors. Dimethylsilicone oil is divided into high-temperature vulcanized silicone and room temperature vulcanized type. What should I do if dimethyl silicone oil turns yellow after high-temperature vulcanization?
High temperature vulcanized silicone dimethyl silicone oil usually requires secondary vulcanization to eliminate residual decomposition in oxides, which further crosslinks silicone rubber to achieve optimal physical properties. However, two-stage vulcanization causes yellowing and reduced transparency of dimethyl silicone oil adhesive, directly affecting the appearance of the product. Its application scope is limited to industries such as food, medical, and solar photovoltaic.
There are different explanations for the yellowing of dimethyl silicone oil. Some believe that it is caused by trace metal elements and NO-3 in the raw materials and additives used to produce dimethyl silicone oil; Some believe that the decomposition of dialkyl peroxides produces acetone, leading to α Hydroxybutyraldehyde condensation and dehydration, resulting in the formation of conjugated compounds; Some also believe that the pH value of silica affects the yellowing of silicone rubber. But currently, the main solutions to the yellowing of dimethyl silicone oil are focused on three aspects: raw rubber, white carbon black, and additives
The following are several methods to improve yellowing of silicone rubber:
1. Add a paste like double 2,5 vulcanizing agent that is resistant to yellowing and contains a high amount of hydrogen silicone oil, which significantly improves the yellowing resistance of silicone rubber, enhances the transparency of dimethyl silicone oil, and prevents the vulcanizing agent from splashing.
2. Adding organic surfactants to white carbon black to control the size of secondary particles effectively controls the degree of yellowing of dimethyl silicone oil under the action of composite anti yellowing agents.
3. Add an anti yellowing agent called pyrophosphate to enhance the anti yellowing ability of the mixed rubber without reducing its physical and mechanical properties.
Dimethylsilicone oil should be stored in a well ventilated and dry warehouse to prevent direct sunlight exposure, and should be isolated from sources of fire. Dimethylsilicone oil is not absorbed by the digestive system and is non irritating to the skin. It may cause slight irritation to the cornea but is not harmful. No protective measures need to be taken during operation and use. You can solve the problem of yellowing of dimethyl silicone oil through the above methods.
