What is the role of dimethyl silicone oil in coatings and plastics?
By using the unique surface properties of dimethyl silicone oil and adding a very small amount to coatings and inks, it can prevent color unevenness, improve stretchability, make the coating surface uniform, increase brightness, and achieve a smooth effect. High viscosity methyl silicone oil can also be used as a defoamer for coatings. However, improper usage and dosage can have the opposite effect. Coatings with added silicone oil have poor compatibility with other coatings and should not be mixed together. The amount of silicone oil added is generally controlled between 0.01% and 0.5%.
Adding methyl silicone oil to thermoplastic resin can endow the plastic with new characteristics. Improve the demolding properties of plastics (internal demolding agents) and the dispersibility of inorganic fillers in resins, enhance the fluidity of resins, and enhance the surface lubrication and wear resistance of products. POM, PA, HIPS, ABS and other resins with added methyl silicone oil have been widely used in the production of wear-resistant and lubricating plastic components, such as gears in OA equipment.
Dimethylsilicone oil can be used as an additive for many other materials, such as a brightener for paint. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to the paint can prevent the paint from floating or wrinkling, and improve the brightness of the paint film. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to ink can improve printing quality. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to polishing oil (such as car polish) can increase brightness, protect the paint film, and have excellent waterproof effects.
