Introduction to silicone rubber

Hits: 905 img

Silicone rubber is one of the largest number of organic silicon products, is a kind of element organic elastomer obtained by hydrolysis and condensation of various dichlorosilane. Divided into hot vulcanization type (high temperature vulcanization silica gel HTV), room temperature vulcanization type (RTV), the room temperature vulcanization type and polycondensation reaction type and addition reaction type. High temperature silicone rubber is mainly used in the manufacture of various silicone rubber products, and room temperature silicone rubber is mainly used as adhesive, potting material or mold. The amount of hot vulcanization type is the largest, hot vulcanization type and divided into methyl silicone rubber (MQ), methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ, the amount and product brand is the most), methyl vinyl phenyl silicone rubber PVMQ (low temperature resistance, radiation resistance), and other fluorine silicone rubber.

1. Characteristics of silicone rubber

The molecular structure of silicone (polydimethylsiloxane) is mainly siloxane bond, and the structure is very stable. Therefore, compared with ordinary organic rubber, silicone compounds have many beneficial properties, such as heat resistance, electrical insulation, chemical stability and so on.

Because silicone is a helical structure, the intermolecular force is very small, so silicone has good elasticity, scalability, cold resistance and so on. In addition, because the methyl group located outside the spiral structure can rotate freely, the silicone can play a number of unique surface properties, such as water resistance, demoulding and so on.

2. Processing process of silicone rubber

Mixing rubber is made by adding raw silicone rubber to double roller mixer or closed kneader and gradually adding white carbon black, silicone oil and other additives repeatedly refining. According to the filler and additives, the performance of silica gel is also different.

3. Production process of silicone rubber

Mixing rubber molding needs to be under the action of vulcanizing agent, applying a certain temperature and pressure (solid is needed, in order to prevent bubbles), through the molding or extrusion process to produce products. Such as HTV needs to be around 165℃, LSR (liquid silicone rubber) needs to be around 140℃.

4. Application of silicone rubber

Silicone rubber is widely used in many fields, and can make many model products and industrial supporting products. Silicone rubber is widely used in health care and food industry because it is non-toxic. In addition, silicone rubber can also be used as a coating and seal for various electronic tubes or electrical components, with moisture-proof, dust proof, shockproof and other products.
